Abstract

The study “Chat GPT in journalistic writing among communication science students, UNTUMBES, 2023” aimed to analyze the relationship between the use of ChatGPT and journalistic writing, seeking to promote its correct use in the production of informative and academic content, as well as to evaluate its impact on the quality and ethics of journalism in training. The study, with a quantitative approach, was developed using a correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and prospective design. The sample included 128 communication science students, selected for convenience, with the requirement of having taken the journalistic writing course. A questionnaire was used as an instrument, and the hypothesis was tested using Pearson's correlation coefficient. The results revealed a very strong positive relationship (r=0.889) between the use of ChatGPT and the quality of journalistic writing, with a p-value of 0.012 (<0.05), confirming the alternative hypothesis. This suggests that greater use of ChatGPT is associated with improved writing skills. Additionally, 44% of students demonstrated a high level of knowledge about the tool, while 39% use it frequently and 42% report regular proficiency. Although perceived effectiveness (38%) and interest in recommending its use (37%) are moderate, the results show that ChatGPT has a positive impact on learning, requiring strategies to optimize its integration into academic training.
