The present descriptive investigation had the objective of establishing the media framing of CNN and BBC (including their versions in Spanish) in YouTube regarding democracy of Bolivia and of South Korea through the cases of “Coup Attempt” and “Martial Law”. The purpose was to contribute to the dialogue regarding digital citizenship and global discourse of democracy, and to know the representation of democracy given by these journalistic enterprises. With a purposive sample of eight videos and their comments, a mixed methodology of content analysis was applied considering the interaction between the media frames in the videos and audience frames in the comments. The results showed the representation of democracy by the media and the public to be dependent upon: (1) Language and culture. (2) Discourse of “us” vs. “them”. This shows the communicational process of framing to be constantly updated based on the ideological bias of the media and the criticality of the public and demands direct dialogue with people who live in these worlds of reference for its understanding.
